NDLEA Arrests Ex-Convict Posing as Herbal Tea Dealer

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 34-year-old Dunu Ebubechukwu, a convicted cocaine trafficker, on September 4, 2026, while he was posing as an herbal tea businessman at Article Market, opposite Trade Fair Market, Ojo, Lagos. The arrest followed the interception of 1.2kg of cocaine concealed in phone chargers destined for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 31.

Ebubechukwu admitted to masterminding previous drug shipments and discarded his SIM card upon learning of the interception. He has a criminal history, having been first arrested in 2011 at MMIA Ikeja, Lagos, after ingesting 900 grams of cocaine and 130 grams of heroin while attempting to fly to Austria under the name Dunu Chukwuyenre Enoch.

He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison, later changing his name to Dunu Bethel Ebubechukwu. A search of his residence in Ejigbo, Lagos, revealed phone chargers used to conceal drugs.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives intercepted a fuel tanker in Ondo State containing 165 bags of cannabis weighing 2,145kg.
