NDLEA Arrests Two Grandfathers for Drug Sales to Students

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested two elderly men, Godfrei Orji (84) and Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora (75), for allegedly selling illicit drugs to secondary school students in Umuahia, Abia State. The arrests occurred on June 19, 2026, following intelligence reports about the sale of illegal substances at a patent medicine store.

During the operation, the NDLEA recovered 64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam. Orji, a pensioner, was caught supplying drugs to students at Saint Sila Secondary School.

Two 15-year-old students admitted during interrogation that Orji regularly supplied them with drugs. The NDLEA has stated that the suspects will be prosecuted, and the students will be placed in a rehabilitation program.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related activities across Nigeria, with multiple seizures and arrests reported in various states.
