NDLEA Seizes 1.63M Tramadol Pills, Arrests 80-Year-Old

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted 1.63 million tramadol pills concealed in two long trailers en route to Kano. The operation, led by NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, resulted in the arrest of 80-year-old Chika Ugwoji in Ahoada on July 14, 2026, who was found with 800 grams of skunk.

The NDLEA's efforts to dismantle transnational drug trafficking syndicates along the Togo-Benin-Nigeria corridor were intensified, leading to the recovery of 558,900 tramadol pills on July 2, 2026, and an additional 777,000 pills on July 4, 2026. The trailers were intercepted along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The agency also arrested 22-year-old drivers Jabir Kabiru and Muham Nuhu during these operations. Furthermore, a businesswoman, Chioma Nneka Mokem, was arrested on July 7, 2026, for her involvement in cannabis shipments from Canada, which included 4.70 kilograms of synthetic cannabis intercepted at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
