NDLEA Arrests Businessman with Cocaine at Lagos Airport

On September 27, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 38-year-old businessman Philip Tunde at the joint screening point of Terminal 2, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, while he was preparing to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Milan, Italy. Tunde was found with 4.8 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in the soles of shoes and railings of travelling bags.
NDLEA operatives recovered 16 parcels of cocaine hidden in eight pairs of trainers and canvas shoes, along with 195 wraps in the railings of four bags. The drugs tested positive for cocaine and weighed 4.80 kg.
During interrogation, Tunde disclosed that he paid N16 million in cash for the cocaine, which he intended to deliver to a partner in Italy. He claimed the funds for the drugs came from compensation for an industrial injury he sustained in Italy, resulting in the loss of two fingers.
