NDLEA Seizes 1.63 Million Tramadol Pills, Arrests Suspect

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted 1.63 million tramadol pills bound for Kano, arresting an 80-year-old suspect, Chika Ugwoji, during operations on July 2, 2026. The first seizure involved 853,000 pills concealed in a trailer, leading to the arrest of 22-year-old driver Jabir Kabiru.

A follow-up operation recovered an additional 777,000 pills from a second trailer, with driver Muham Nuhu also arrested. This operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking networks, which included a previous seizure of 558,900 tramadol pills on June 21, 2026.

Other operations led to the arrest of individuals linked to cannabis trafficking, including a cargo agent and a businesswoman associated with illicit activities. NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Moha Buba Marwa commended the efforts of the personnel involved and emphasized the agency's commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks nationwide.
