NDLEA Seizes N5bn Drugs, Arrests Businessman in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted container consignments of cannabis, known as Loud, and codeine-based syrup valued at over N5 billion at Nigerian ports. On September 3, at the Apapa port, NDLEA operatives discovered 161 parcels of Thai Loud weighing 124kg, concealed in refrigerators and cartons, worth N372 million.
On September 29, at Tin Can Island, 2,595 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 1,297.5kg were found hidden in vehicles and drums, with a street value exceeding N3.8 billion. Additionally, at the Onne port, 40 packs of Loud weighing 22kg and 109,600 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 16,440kg were seized, with a combined value of N833.2 million.
The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, stated that these operations followed months of intelligence gathering and tracking of the shipments from their original ports.
