NDLEA Reports 559 Arrests, 128 Convictions in Anambra

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State has intensified its efforts against illicit drug activities, recording 559 arrests and securing 128 convictions over the past 11 months. Charl Onubogu, the state command head, disclosed these figures during a press briefing in Awka, coinciding with the upcoming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.

The arrests included 475 males and 84 females involved in various drug-related offenses, with a total of 1.8 tons of different categories of illicit drugs seized during the review period. Additionally, the NDLEA rehabilitated 102 individuals, comprising 99 males and three females, through vocational skill acquisition programs.

Onubogu reiterated the agency's commitment to disrupting the supply chain of illicit drugs and emphasized the importance of public awareness and support for drug users, who require help rather than criminalization. The NDLEA plans to hold a road walk awareness activity as part of the global anti-drug campaign.
