NDLEA Seizes 4,905 kg of Drugs, Arrests 42 in Edo State

In June 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Edo State Command seized a total of 4,905.36 kg of illicit drugs and arrested 42 suspects involved in drug trafficking. The operation, led by Mitchel Ofoyeju, resulted in the destruction of three cannabis farms, with a total area of 1.667608 hectares.

The farms were located in Owan East Local Government Area and Ilushi, Esan South LGA. Notably, 169 kg of processed cannabis was recovered, and two suspects, Patrick Imoukhed (45 years old) and Austin Anyamon (45 years old), were apprehended.

The agency also intercepted various drugs, including 540 bottles of codeine cough syrup, 11,100 capsules of tramadol, and 4.44 kg of other psychotropic substances. The NDLEA emphasized the significance of these operations in combating drug abuse and trafficking, especially in light of emerging threats such as kidnapping and cultism linked to drug-related activities.
