NDLEA Seizes Over 2 Billion Tramadol Pills in 18 Months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the seizure of over two billion tramadol pills in the last 18 months, as stated by Chairman Brig. Gen.

Buba Marwa (retd.) during a visit to the Lekki Free Trade Zone and Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos. Marwa attributed these significant seizures to improved intelligence gathering and collaboration with international law enforcement agencies, especially in India and Pakistan.

He warned criminal networks against using Nigeria's seaports for drug trafficking, noting that the NDLEA has upgraded its surveillance capabilities. The agency collaborates with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and other security agencies to facilitate intelligence exchange.

Marwa emphasized the need for collective action against drug trafficking and highlighted the societal impact of drug abuse. He also mentioned the discovery of a methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State, which could have produced narcotics worth approximately $360 million.

Marwa urged parents to monitor their children for signs of substance abuse.
