NDLEA Seizes N1.5 Trillion in Drugs Over 18 Months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by Chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa, announced that it seized drugs valued at N1.5 trillion over the past 18 months, resulting in 29,262 arrests. The agency convicted 5,225 offenders during this period.

Marwa emphasized that enforcement alone cannot solve the drug problem and highlighted the importance of drug demand reduction initiatives. The NDLEA conducted campaigns that reached nearly five million Nigerians, focusing on education and prevention in schools, workplaces, and communities.

Additionally, the agency rehabilitated 13,508 drug users across 31 centers nationwide. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, the NDLEA is aligning its strategies with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes providing alternative livelihoods for cannabis growers.

The agency also aims to enhance its technological capabilities to identify emerging drug trends and improve forensic analysis. The NDLEA's efforts are part of a broader commitment to create an environment where young Nigerians can thrive and succeed.
