NDLEA Seizes Over 2 Billion Tramadol Pills in 18 Months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the seizure of over two billion tramadol pills within the last 18 months. This announcement was made by the NDLEA Chairman, Brig.

Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), during a familiarization tour of the Lekki Free Trade Zone and Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos.

Marwa attributed the successful seizures to coordinated operations and intelligence sharing with international partners, particularly in India and Pakistan. He warned traffickers against using Nigeria’s ports for drug movement, emphasizing the agency's enhanced surveillance capabilities.

Marwa called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, port operators, and stakeholders to combat drug trafficking and protect Nigeria’s economy. He highlighted the recent discovery of a methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State, which could have produced illicit drugs worth approximately $360 million.

Marwa urged parents to monitor their children for signs of substance abuse and expressed optimism about proposed amendments to the NDLEA Act that would impose stricter penalties on drug traffickers.
