NDLEA Destroys 330 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a court-ordered destruction of 330 tonnes of illicit drugs in Lagos, involving drugs seized by multiple NDLEA commands. The NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command accounted for 246,864.535 kilograms seized between April 2025 and May 2026, while an additional 83,001.05 kilograms were sourced from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tin-Can and Apapa Strategic Commands, the Marine Command, and a Special Operations Unit.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated that the destruction reflects Nigeria's determination to protect its citizens and disrupt criminal activities. He linked drug use to addiction and crime, highlighting its economic impact.

Marwa credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for supporting the agency's efforts and acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, noted the operation's significance in addressing the drug threat and promoting coordinated law enforcement actions.
