AI Transforms Nigeria's Power Sector, Says NDPHC CEO

Jennif Adighij, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), addressed the significant impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) on Nigeria's power sector at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) engagement. Adighij explained that the integration of advanced digital technologies has substantially improved the efficiency and reliability of operations across NDPHC's generation assets.

The company has adopted AI for predictive maintenance systems, enabling plant engineers to detect potential equipment failures proactively. This approach allows NDPHC to prevent unexpected breakdowns, reduce forced outages, and minimize maintenance-related costs.

Adighij highlighted that the deployment of AI tools marks a major shift in operational strategy from traditional maintenance models to intelligent, data-driven systems capable of real-time decision-making. Unlike preventive maintenance, which relies on scheduled services, predictive maintenance utilizes real-time data analytics and machine learning algorithms to monitor equipment health and forecast faults with greater precision.
