NECO Exam Questions Sold for ₦3,000, Minister Alausa Reveals

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed that examination questions for the National Examinations Council (NECO) were allegedly sold for ₦3,000 prior to the exams, describing the extent of examination malpractice in Nigeria as “mind-boggling.” This revelation occurred during a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools and other education stakeholders. Alausa warned that such malpractice has been tolerated for years, disadvantaging students who prepare honestly.

He expressed concern that this situation could lead honest students to engage in malpractice to compete with those who accessed leaked questions. Alausa recounted his experiences during the 2025 examination period, where he received texts with allegedly leaked questions, which were later confirmed to be accurate by examination authorities.

He emphasized that the issue of examination malpractice is not solely a student problem but affects the entire education ecosystem.
