NEDC Launches 10,330 Electric Vehicles Initiative in North-East

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) is set to deploy 10,330 electric vehicles across the six states of the North-East region, including 10,000 electric tricycles, 300 electric taxis, and 30 electric buses. This initiative, in partnership with Attahir Enterprises Nigeria Limited, aims to reduce transportation costs and create employment opportunities.
During a two-day stakeholders’ engagement workshop in Bauchi State, NEDC Bauchi State Coordinator Aliyu Isiyaku emphasized the project's goal of providing affordable, safer, and environmentally friendly transportation services. The workshop gathered various stakeholders, including transport operators and traditional rulers, to ensure community understanding and support for the initiative.
Umar Abacha, CEO of Attahir Enterprises, noted that the electric vehicles could travel up to 300 kilometers on a full charge, with charging points established to support operations. The vehicles will be distributed to state governments for beneficiaries who will receive training on safe and efficient usage.
Traditional leaders pledged to raise community awareness about the benefits of electric mobility.
