NEHC Registrar Advocates for Sanitation to Combat Diseases

Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Baba, the Registrar of the Nigeria Environmental Health Council (NEHC), called on Nigerians to prioritize environmental sanitation and personal hygiene to mitigate the spread of communicable diseases. During an interview, he highlighted the significance of preventing diseases through improved sanitary conditions, safe water, and hygienic environments, particularly for children.

Dr. Baba urged parents and caregivers to ensure their children receive appropriate vaccinations and seek timely medical attention for any illness symptoms. He stressed that closing vaccination gaps and providing access to basic preventive healthcare are essential for protecting children and reducing the burden of transmissible diseases.

He advocated for community responsibility in maintaining clean environments, including proper refuse disposal, preventing water source contamination, and regular hand washing. Additionally, he cautioned against overcrowding and practices that could facilitate disease transmission.

Dr. Baba reaffirmed the necessity of sustained public health education and collaboration among government, healthcare professionals, families, and communities in disease prevention efforts.
