EHCON Unveils New Curricula for Environmental Health Training

The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) launched 14 Higher National Diploma (HND) curricula designed to strengthen professional training and environmental health practices in Nigeria. These curricula encompass areas such as Environmental Health Technology, Public Health Technology, and Epidemiology and Disease Control Technology.

The unveiling ceremony featured Mr Balarabe Lawal, the Minister of Environment, represented by Mr Ibrahim Goni, who urged state and local governments, educational institutions, and private-sector operators to support the curricula's implementation. Dr Yakubu Mohammed Baba, the Registrar of EHCON, emphasized the council's commitment to producing competent professionals capable of addressing societal needs.

He noted that successful implementation would depend on adequate funding and cooperation among stakeholders. Mr Jamilu Mohammed, President of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, stressed the importance of translating the curricula into tangible outcomes.

Prof Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, highlighted the necessity for specialized manpower to tackle public health challenges. The keynote speaker, Prof Agwu Amadi, supported the initiative's significance.
