NELFUND Denies Suspension of Student Allowances

NELFUND, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, has officially debunked a report claiming the suspension of student upkeep allowances for the 2025/2026 academic session. The organization described a document circulating on social media as fake and not originating from NELFUND.

Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications, emphasized that neither the federal government nor NELFUND approved any announcement regarding the suspension of upkeep allowance payments to eligible beneficiaries. She clarified that the document falsely alleged that fund allocations for May and June had not been released and insisted that the suspension was temporary.

Oluwatuyi reassured that payments for outstanding allocations would be made and that the disbursement of student loan upkeep allowances would continue in line with NELFUND's mandate to provide financial support to eligible students in public tertiary institutions nationwide. She urged beneficiaries to disregard the misinformation and to verify information through NELFUND's official communication channels.
