NEMA Responds to Train Derailment in Delta State

On June 8, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) activated its emergency response team after receiving an alert regarding a passenger train derailment along the Itakpe-Warri route in Delta State. The incident involved the train service operating along the Agbor axis.

Zubaida Umar, the Director General of NEMA, confirmed that the agency's response mechanism was immediately activated upon receiving the alert. NEMA's team collaborated with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected passengers.

Initial reports indicated that four coaches were affected by the derailment. The NRC's emergency response team was mobilized to the scene to assess the situation and assist passengers.

The NRC has pledged to provide further updates as investigations continue. This incident adds to a series of disruptions on the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor, which had previously experienced service suspensions due to track vandalism.
