NEMA and Kogi State Enhance Flood Preparedness Partnership

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has intensified its collaboration with the Kogi State Government to enhance flood preparedness and emergency response due to forecasts indicating a heightened risk of flooding during the ongoing rainy season. This was announced following a courtesy visit by Zakari Abubakar, Head of the Abuja Operations Office, to Kogi State Deputy Governor Salifu Oyibo at the Government House in Lokoja.

The meeting focused on strategies for disaster preparedness, emergency response coordination, and flood risk reduction. Abubakar emphasized the importance of collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, and local communities for effective disaster management.

He outlined proactive measures such as public sensitization, early warning information dissemination, and evacuation planning for vulnerable communities. Oyibo praised NEMA's commitment to disaster risk management and acknowledged the agency as a reliable ally in building resilience against disasters.

The engagement is part of ongoing efforts to improve disaster preparedness in states facing increased flood risks, following warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency regarding variable rainfall patterns.
