NEMA Reaffirms Commitment to Humanitarian Transition

On Wednesday, Mr. Zubaida Umar, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reaffirmed the agency's commitment to supporting Nigeria's humanitarian transition in line with its statutory mandate to coordinate disaster management and humanitarian response across the country.

This statement was made during a humanitarian transition workshop organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Abuja. Mr.

Umar assured that NEMA remains dedicated to delivering its coordination role in disaster management activities. He highlighted the agency's proactive approach to disaster risk management, which includes strengthening preparedness, promoting early warning and action, and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders at national, state, and community levels.

Dr. Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, acknowledged the changing global humanitarian landscape and the necessity for an effective humanitarian transition process.
