NERC Supports Minister Tegbe's Call for Power Harmony

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has expressed support for the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, in his call for greater regulatory harmony within the Nigerian electricity market. This endorsement was made during a workshop in Abuja focused on legal and policy regulatory harmonization.

Minister Tegbe highlighted the importance of synergy among stakeholders to expand electricity access, stating that electricity is fundamental for national development. He noted that harmonization would ensure that all players in the power sector work towards the common goal of increasing electricity supply.

NERC Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni echoed this sentiment, urging stakeholders to prioritize reliable power delivery over personal interests.

He emphasized that Nigerians care more about the availability of reliable electricity than regulatory responses. Oseni proposed reforms through the National Council on Power (NACOP) to facilitate more frequent policy meetings between federal and state commissions, rather than relying solely on traditional annual gatherings.

The workshop aimed to align efforts in the decentralized power market and foster cooperation among actors.
