Experts Doubt New Agencies Will Solve Nigeria's Power Crisis

Experts have expressed skepticism regarding the effectiveness of new agencies in addressing Nigeria's persistent power crisis. A statement from Bayo Onanuga, a special advisor to the President, highlighted the formation of an 11-member committee tasked with overseeing the management of power grid assets.

This committee will evaluate the legal status and ownership structures of various power plants, including those under the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). Gamco, the grid asset management company, plans to recover at least 1,600 MW within 18 to 24 months and will focus on optimizing power output from key plants.
