Gaiya Critiques NFF's Governance Amid Football Crisis

Gaiya, a former lawmaker, criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for not justifying government support amid calls for a complete overhaul of Nigerian football. This criticism arises as the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the NFF face an administrative impasse over the NSC's proposal to establish a Normalisation Committee to manage Nigerian football for three months.

This plan follows the cancellation of the 2026 NFF Elective Congress, originally set for September 27 in Lafia. Gaiya stated that the NSC has the constitutional authority to supervise all sporting federations, including football, to protect public interests.

He lamented that despite the NFF being well-funded and provided with favorable conditions, it has failed to translate these resources into meaningful development, leading to disappointing performances by national teams. Gaiya urged the NSC to implement CAF/FIFA-approved reforms to restore integrity and national pride in Nigerian football governance.
