Eguavoen Named Interim Coach for Super Falcons' Olympic Qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Super Falcons, Nigeria's women's national football team, for their qualifying fixtures for the 2028 Olympic Games against Comoros in October. This decision comes after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) dismissed Justin Madugu and his technical crew on August 17, following Nigeria's disappointing performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Eguavoen, who previously managed the Super Eagles, will be supported by Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, as well as Olatunji Baruwa as goalkeeper trainer and Ayisat Yusuf as an assistant coach. The Super Falcons will play against Comoros on October 9 and 13 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the qualifiers, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate. The Super Falcons must win four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to secure a spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
