NGO Advocates for Health Clinics in Underserved Markets

Mrs. Joy Chioma-Nwankwo, Chairperson of the Joyful Rose Health Initiative and Deputy Director of Nursing at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, called for the establishment of clinics in underserved markets during the NGO's inaugural free health outreach at Karu Market in the Federal Capital Territory.

The outreach aimed to provide medical screening and health education to about 200 traders, addressing health risks associated with their sedentary lifestyles, such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Chioma-Nwankwo emphasized the need for accessible healthcare facilities for traders and urged the government to allocate more resources to healthcare.

The initiative, established in May 2025, focuses on bridging healthcare disparities in underserved communities. Dr.

Somto Chukwu Benson, a medical doctor specializing in internal medicine, noted health concerns among participants, including elevated blood sugar levels and hypertension risks. He highlighted the importance of regular medical check-ups and lifestyle changes to prevent chronic conditions.
