The NGX All-Share Index closed marginally higher at 252,296.22 points, gaining 0.18% as mixed trading signals balanced broad market momentum. Market capitalisation stood at ₦163.8 trillion across 41,353 deals valued at ₦48.2 billion.

The Nigerian Exchange closed Wednesday's session in modest positive territory, with the All-Share Index edging up 0.18% to 252,296.22 points. While the fractional gain suggests caution among investors, the underlying trading activity reveals a market split between conviction buying and profit-taking.

On the gainers' side, CMFC led the charge with a 9.92% surge, rising ₦0.39 to ₦4.32, followed closely by LIVINGTRUST (+9.79%, +₦0.28) and ABCTRANS (+9.76%, +₦0.60). These double-digit moves indicate selective bullish interest in specific counters, though the absence of large-cap participation in the gainers' list suggests strength remained confined to smaller-cap securities.

Conversely, the losers' board painted a different picture. LEARNAFRCA suffered the sharpest decline, falling 10.00% (₦0.85) to ₦7.65, while THOMASWY dropped 9.80% (₦0.29) to ₦2.67. These declines mirror the gainers' magnitude, signalling rotational trading rather than panic selling.

Volume dynamics tell an important story: VFDGROUP dominated traded shares with 365.1 million units, far exceeding peers like UACN (157.8 million). This concentration in a single counter, combined with modest total value traded at ₦48.2 billion, suggests limited institutional participation.

The market's tepid 0.18% close—despite visible sectoral movement—reflects investor hesitation. With September drawing to close, positioning ahead of Q4 earnings season likely remains cautious.

Investors should monitor whether large-cap blue chips participate in tomorrow's session, as their absence could signal broader market fragility.
