The Nigerian Exchange closed stronger today as the ASI advanced 250,343.41 points, up 2.52%, driven by broad-based buying across government securities and blue-chip stocks. However, selected equities declined sharply, suggesting investors remained selective despite the positive session.

The All-Share Index delivered a solid performance on Monday, rising 2.52% to close at 250,343.41 points as market participants rotated into both fixed income instruments and equities. The session generated ₦21.8 billion in traded value across 42,974 deals, reflecting moderate investor participation.

Government securities led gainers, with FGSUK2027S3 surging 11.75% (adding ₦9.99 to reach ₦94.99) and TAJSUKS1 climbing 10.53% (gaining ₦8.00 to ₦84.00). This movement suggests investors repositioned toward shorter-dated debt instruments, likely reflecting expectations around interest rate dynamics or portfolio rebalancing ahead of quarter-end.

Equity gainers painted a picture of selective strength. DANGCEM, Nigeria's cement bellwether, rose 10.00% (₦111.10) to ₦1,222.10, while NGXGROUP appreciated 8.20% (₦12.50) to ₦165.00. HONYFLOUR added 9.78% (₦1.75), signaling consumer-focused plays attracted buying interest. Banking stocks dominated volume: ZENITHBANK, UBA, and ACCESSCORP collectively traded over 65 million shares, anchoring the market's liquidity.

Conversely, weakness emerged in transport and logistics. ABCTRANS fell 9.59% (losing ₦0.70 to ₦6.60), whilst CAVERTON dropped 9.38% (₦0.45 to ₦4.35). LIVESTOCK declined 9.09% (₦1.55), suggesting sector-specific headwinds or profit-taking.

The market cap expanded to ₦162.5 trillion, reflecting the session's net positive momentum. Investors should monitor banking stock earnings releases and track whether fixed income strength persists into the next trading session.
