NHIA Commits to Reforms After ICPC Review Score

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has pledged to enhance its institutional reforms following a system review by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which awarded the agency a score of 73% for its governance and operational systems. Dr.

Kelechi Ohiri, the Director-General of the NHIA, spoke to journalists in Abuja after the report's presentation, describing the assessment as an independent validation of the agency's reform efforts. He noted that while the score reflects progress, it also identifies areas needing improvement as the NHIA aims for universal health coverage.

Over the past two and a half years, the NHIA has implemented significant reforms, including digitizing its financial management system, clearing audit backlogs, and deploying personnel to health facilities to address enrollees' complaints. Ohiri emphasized that the NHIA remains focused on ensuring quality and timely healthcare services for all Nigerians enrolled in the health insurance scheme and will act on the ICPC's recommendations to bolster governance and operational efficiency.
