Prof. Wale Sulaiman Receives 2026 Diaspora Merit Award

The Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) honored Prof. Wale Sulaiman, a Nigerian-born neurosurgeon and the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), with the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Award (NDMA).

This recognition, confirmed in a letter signed by NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, acknowledges Sulaiman’s significant contributions to healthcare and humanitarian service.

Additionally, he received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Kwara State Association of Nigeria in North America (KSANG) for his humanitarian efforts and professional excellence. The NDMA aims to celebrate Nigerians in the Diaspora who have made notable contributions to national development.

The award was presented by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sulaiman has been actively involved in enhancing Nigeria’s healthcare system, providing free neurosurgical care, and facilitating training opportunities for Nigerian medical professionals.
