US-Based Professor Hakeem Tijani Wins Diaspora Award

Professor Hakeem Tijani, a US-based Nigerian academic, has been selected as a recipient of the Nigerian Diaspora Merit Award (NDMA) for his significant contributions to education. The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) announced this recognition in a letter dated May 22, 2026, signed by Sule Bassi on behalf of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

The NDMA aims to honor the contributions of Nigerians living abroad, with the 2026 celebration scheduled for July 24-25, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The event will commence at 15:00 WAT on July 24 and continue at 17:00 WAT on July 25.

NiDCOM describes the annual event as a platform for networking and advocacy, celebrating the achievements of the Nigerian diaspora in various fields that contribute to the overall development of Nigeria.
