Seven Boko Haram Suspects Arrested at Katsina Airport

On a day of celebration at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, seven men were discreetly arrested by border control officers upon their return from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. These men were identified by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as suspected commanders of Boko Haram and ISWAP.

They were isolated from other passengers and escorted under heavy security to Abuja, where they were handed over to the State Security Service (SSS). The arrests sparked national debate, particularly regarding how the suspects managed to leave Nigeria in the first place, as they traveled using valid Nigerian international passports issued in their own names.

This incident has raised serious questions about Nigeria's border management capabilities, despite government claims of advancements in biometric identity verification and intelligence coordination among security agencies.
