Technology Aids Arrest of Boko Haram Suspects in Katsina

Seven suspects associated with Boko Haram and ISWAP were arrested at Umaru Musa Yar'Adua International Airport in Katsina upon their return from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. This significant operation demonstrated the effectiveness of technology in combating terrorism, particularly through the integration of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database with the Nigerian Immigration Service and international law enforcement platforms like Interpol.

Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo noted that the recent arrests highlight the importance of inter-agency collaboration and the shift towards data-driven intelligence in counter-terrorism efforts. The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, is reforming security architecture, including passport automation and immigration reforms, to enhance operational efficiency.
