Nigeria Advocates for Fair Hydrogen Economy at UN Conference

Nigeria has called on the United Nations to foster a fair hydrogen economy, emphasizing that no region should be excluded in the transition to a cleaner energy ecosystem. Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, outlined Nigeria's position during his closing remarks at a conference on clean hydrogen held in Vienna, Austria.

He stressed the importance of addressing past inequities in value creation, which have often favored a few regions while relegating others to mere suppliers of raw materials. Bagudu explained that hydrogen represents more than just a decarbonization tool; it is a pathway for industrial job creation and energy security.

He highlighted the historical opportunity for Nigeria to shift from the margins to the mainstream of the global energy system, advocating for a more equitable approach to the emerging hydrogen economy.
