Nigeria Applauds UK's Commitment to Women, Peace Agenda

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Nigeria commended the UK government for its renewed commitment to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. This commendation followed discussions at the Nigeria-UK Defence and Security Forum, where the UK reiterated its support for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.

Hon. Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, acknowledged the impact of the UK's Spring Programme, which aims to promote inclusive peace and security and strengthen institutions that empower women.

She described the UK's renewed pledge as a significant boost to Nigeria's efforts to fully implement the WPS agenda. The minister emphasized that the implementation of UNSCR 1325 is central to ensuring women's protection during conflicts and empowering them as leaders and decision-makers in peace and security processes.

The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with international partners to promote inclusive governance and strengthen institutional frameworks for sustainable peace.
