Nigeria and Ethiopia Launch AI Research Initiative

Nigeria and Ethiopia are deepening their collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) through a joint research and training initiative, which will be showcased at a conference in 2026 hosted by Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech). The program is coordinated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

The initiative aims to build scalable systems that support collaborative research across borders. A major highlight will be the unveiling of a decentralized AI and machine learning simulation platform designed to support multi-country research and integrate classroom deployment.

This platform will enable real-time streaming of models into classrooms across participating institutions, allowing students to engage in live experiments. The initiative has already been tested at institutions such as the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka and the Federal College of Education Zuba.

The conference will feature technical sessions and live demonstrations, emphasizing the importance of this partnership in fostering African technological development.
