Nigeria Launches Training for 5,000 Meter Installers

The Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched the Power Force programme on Thursday at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in Abuja. This nationwide initiative aims to train 5,000 certified electricity meter installers to accelerate the deployment of seven million smart meters and address Nigeria's metering gap.

The programme, part of the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), received nearly 220,000 applications from young Nigerians. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, emphasized the initiative's role in power sector reform and youth empowerment.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe stated that the success of the smart metering programme relies on skilled technicians. He also acknowledged the Association of Meter Manufacturers of Nigeria for withdrawing its court case against the meter deployment programme.

Minister of Youth Development Ayo Olawande highlighted the initiative's alignment with the "One Youth, Two Skills" programme, showcasing the government's commitment to creating job opportunities for youths.
