Tinubu Launches Smart Meter Training for Youths in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, launched the training of 5,000 young Nigerians in smart meter installation as part of the Presidential Metering Initiative at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in Abuja. The initiative aims to strengthen the electricity sector while creating meaningful employment opportunities and equipping youths with technical skills.

The Federal Government plans to progressively expand the program to accommodate up to 500,000 participants. The initiative will help ensure that households and businesses receive professionally installed smart meters that adhere to high technical and safety standards.

Mrs. Olu Verhiejen, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Metering Initiative, noted that over seven million smart meters will be deployed, marking the largest metering program in Nigeria's history.

The program will provide graduates with professional training, industry certification, and pathways to employment with electricity distribution companies and meter providers.
