Enugu State Launches DNA Centre to Enhance Justice System

The Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, has inaugurated a DNA Centre in collaboration with Godfrey Okoye University to improve the criminal justice system in Nigeria. During the event, Governor Mbah highlighted the centre's potential to revolutionize crime detection by providing scientific evidence capable of identifying perpetrators and securing convictions.

He urged residents to avoid tampering with crime scenes, stressing that biological materials such as fingerprints and blood samples are crucial for investigations. Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev. Prof. Christian Aniek, described the facility as a milestone in the state's ongoing security reforms.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, called the project a major advancement in integrating forensic science into Nigeria's justice system. The centre aims to strengthen investigations into serious crimes, including homicide and human trafficking, and is expected to position Enugu State as a hub for forensic science in Nigeria.
