Nigeria to Celebrate Prof Otonti Nduka's 100th Birthday

Nigeria is set to honor education icon Prof Otonti Nduka on the occasion of his 100th birthday with a two-day centenary celebration scheduled for May 8-9, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The event is expected to attract prominent figures from academia, government, industry, and civil society, reflecting Prof Nduka's enduring influence in education.

Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, will attend as a special guest, while Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara will serve as the chief host. Renowned economist and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, will deliver a keynote address titled "Trend and Challenges in Upholding Value Education in Nigeria." The celebration will also feature the launch of the Otonti Nduka Foundation, which aims to raise N5 billion to support scholarships, teacher training, and research initiatives in Nigerian universities.

The event will include a national conference, panel discussions on reviving value-based education, and cultural activities such as music, dance, and poetry.
