Nigeria Signs Agreement with IEA for Energy Partnership

On Thursday, Nigeria and the International Energy Agency (IEA) signed an agreement for a Joint Work Programme to enhance strategic partnership in energy policy and investment. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, stated that Nigeria's formal admission into the IEA as an Association Country marks a significant milestone and reflects the administration's economic reforms.

Shettima praised the IEA's role in the global energy landscape and highlighted Nigeria's potential in renewable energy resources. He assured the IEA of the current administration's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders for a fair energy transition.

Dr. Fatih Birol, leader of the IEA delegation, noted that membership in the IEA requires extensive considerations and tests, emphasizing the organization's comprehensive coverage of various energy technologies. The agreement signifies the beginning of Nigeria's partnership with the IEA, aimed at leveraging the country's abundant energy resources for economic growth and energy security.
