Nigeria and Italy Launch $5bn Education Financing Campaign

Nigeria and Italy have established a partnership to implement a $5 billion global education financing campaign, aimed at mobilizing resources for educational initiatives. This campaign is expected to support the education of 750 million children globally and is part of preparations for a global education summit scheduled to take place in Rome in September 2026.

Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this during a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Roberto Mengoni, in Abuja. A statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that the campaign aims to unlock an additional $10 billion in domestic education financing by 2030.

Ojukwu emphasized that education remains a priority in President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, noting the importance of the summit in light of Nigeria's growing youth population. The partnership is also expected to create opportunities for young people and address migration concerns.
