Nigeria Commissions Africa's First Renewable Energy College

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu declared Nigeria as a leader in renewable energy capacity development across Africa during the commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College and the Green Hydrogen Research and Demonstration Pilot Plant at the Confluence University of Science and Technology in Kogi State. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu stated that the college aims to address Nigeria's structural challenges by utilizing the country's abundant natural resources to create jobs.

The college, modeled after successful vocational colleges in India, will train technicians and professionals in renewable energy technologies, providing internationally recognized certificates. Tinubu emphasized the need for collaboration with development partners and the private sector to ensure the college's success.

He also reflected on Nigeria's history of abandoned projects, highlighting the swift completion of this institution as a significant achievement in the country's energy transition efforts.
