Tinubu Launches Africa's First Renewable Energy College

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, inaugurated the Barefoot Renewable Energy College (BARECKS) at the Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Kogi State. This college is the first of its kind in Africa, designed to offer practical training in solar and other renewable energy technologies.

President Tinubu emphasized the college's role in empowering rural communities and training aspiring renewable energy technicians. He stated that the establishment of the college aligns with the Federal Government's commitment to expanding access to clean energy, creating jobs, and equipping young Nigerians with essential technical skills.

Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo praised the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development, urging local youths to enroll and acquire skills that would enhance their livelihoods. Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, commended the project as a significant milestone in advancing renewable energy education and community empowerment across Africa.
