Nigeria Standardizes Lesson Plans for Teachers Nationwide

The Nigerian Ministry of Education is taking significant steps to standardize lesson plans for teachers, covering 26 core subjects across basic and post-basic education levels. This initiative, spearheaded by Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, aims to strengthen classroom instruction nationwide.

During the opening ceremony of a workshop organized by the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) in Abuja, Professor Ahmad emphasized the importance of collaboration among teachers to improve classroom practices. The TRCN registrar, Dr.

Ronk Soyombo, noted that the valid workshop aims to enhance teachers' subject knowledge and facilitate lesson plan preparation tailored to diverse learner abilities. The standardized lesson plans will be rolled out across 774 local government areas, with implementation set to begin in September 2026.

UNESCO's representative, Moham Ibrahim, commended the initiative, stating that it aligns with the goal of advancing quality inclusive education. This move is crucial for improving learning outcomes at a time when teacher support is essential.
