Nigeria's Port Efficiency Hindered by Infrastructure Issues

Jama Onwubuariri, managing director and co-founder of Trucks Transit Parks (TTP), emphasized that Nigeria's modernization efforts in logistics and reduction of port congestion through technology could be hindered by inadequate infrastructure. In a statement, he noted that Ètò, which enhances predictability in port truck movement, has significantly reduced turnaround times from weeks to less than two days in some cases.

However, Onwubuariri stressed that further improvements depend on enhancements in terminal operations, cargo documentation, port infrastructure, road conditions, and cargo-release processes. He pointed out that before Ètò, truck movement was chaotic, characterized by long queues and uncertainty.

While Ètò has introduced a more structured approach, he stated that the physical infrastructure must support this efficiency. Onwubuariri called for better coordination among government agencies and private stakeholders involved in cargo clearance, highlighting that delays in documentation and terminal processes affect the entire supply chain.

He concluded that addressing these physical and operational bottlenecks is crucial for achieving a truly efficient port system.
