Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Energy Use

On Thursday, in Abuja, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, reaffirmed the country's commitment to the peaceful application of nuclear energy. This declaration occurred during a meeting with Anthony Ekedegwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as stated by spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, highlighted Nigeria's participation in global nuclear governance and the importance of strengthening collaboration in this area. Tuggar noted the strategic significance of atomic energy and nuclear technology in contemporary international relations, stressing that nuclear issues remain central to global discussions on energy security and technological advancement.

He emphasized the necessity of sustaining institutional collaboration to enhance Nigeria's voice in international nuclear diplomacy, particularly within the United Nations system. The meeting also underscored Nigeria's long-standing position supporting the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology to advance socio-economic development.
