Nigeria Recovers Over N800bn Through Whistleblower Policy

The Nigerian government has successfully recovered over N800 billion through its whistleblower policy, which was launched in December 2016 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Dr.

Dori Uzoka, the State Minister of Finance, disclosed this information during a nationwide sensitization program in Sokoto aimed at encouraging citizens to report corruption, fraud, and financial misconduct. The event, which included participation from various fields, highlighted the importance of public awareness in identifying corruption and improving governance.

Dr. Uzoka acknowledged the challenges faced in implementing the policy and called for collaboration with relevant authorities to expose corruption.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Musa, also participated, emphasizing that whistleblowing is crucial for strengthening integrity. Additionally, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu and Muhammad Jabbi Shagari reiterated their commitment to combating public embezzlement.

The EFCC's chairman, Ola Olukoyede, expressed the need for legislative protection for whistleblowers to enhance the fight against corruption.
