Nigeria's Mixed Doubles Shine at Lagos Badminton Classics

At the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics, held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Nigeria Institute of Sports in Surulere, Lagos, Team Nigeria showed significant improvement in the mixed doubles category. Four Nigerian pairs qualified for the quarter-finals after a disappointing performance in the women's singles, where seven players, including Nigeria’s number-one ranked player, Ruth Ebere, were eliminated in the Round of 32.

Ebere lost to India’s Surya Tamiri. In mixed doubles, Victor Ikechukwu and Emiola defeated Uganda’s Ray Nsubuga and Tracy Naluwooza with a score of 21-18, 21-12.

Saidu Aliyu and Christiana Obasanmi advanced via a walkover against India’s Sai Pratheek and Srinidi Narayan. Kayode Abdulateef and Cynthia Feranmi won against Ghana’s Ofori Acheampong and Racheal Quarcoo, while Usman Afolabi and Zainab Alabi triumphed over the UAE-Australia duo of S.

Munnangi and Stret Yellapragada. The tournament began on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
