South-East Youth Leaders Alarmed by Rising Living Costs

On March 16, 2026, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the President General of the Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (Coseyl), issued a statement expressing serious concerns regarding the rising cost of living in Nigeria. The price of petrol has surged to approximately 1,500 Naira per liter, which has triggered corresponding increases in transport and food prices, significantly impacting the cost of living.

The sharp rise in diesel and other petroleum products has added economic pressure on households and businesses. Coseyl warns that the combination of rising living costs and stagnant incomes is making it increasingly difficult for Nigerians to afford basic necessities, particularly affecting small businesses.

The group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government to implement immediate measures to alleviate these economic challenges. Suggested actions include stabilizing petroleum prices, strengthening the Naira, supporting local production, and providing targeted relief programs for citizens and small businesses.

Coseyl urges the government to engage relevant stakeholders to develop long-term sustainable solutions to reduce living costs and restore hope for Nigerians.
